Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD or ADHD) is a neurobehavioral - developmental disorder characterized by a persistent pattern of inattention and /or hyperactivity that is more frequently displayed and more severe than is typically observed in children of the same age without the disorder. It affects about 3 to 5% of children with symptoms starting before seven years of age. For a diagnosis, impairment must be present in at least two settings (i.e. at home and at school).  ADHD is twice more common in boys than in girls, and is generally a chronic disorder with 30 to 50% of individuals diagnosed in childhood continuing to have symptoms into adulthood.  As they mature, adolescents and adults with ADHD are likely to develop coping mechanisms to compensate for their impairment.

At CPNI we are highly trained to diagnose ADD/ADHD and treat its symptoms. Our consultants hold specialist ADHD clinics on a fortnightly basis. Methods of treatment usually involve a combination of medication, behavior modifications, life-style changes, combined with counseling. While our Paediatric Neurologists closely monitor the individual progress of each child, we also offer individualized counseling sessions to parents and children. In addition, we closely collaborate with schools and teachers in developing comprehensive behavioral programs that help control symptoms of ADHD and maximize learning outcomes.
